Overview

Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) was an Austrian composer of Classical music. He was a crucial figure in the transition from the Baroque to the Classical period, and one of the most important figures of the Viennese Classical music school. His influence has long been recognized, but only recently has his genius become more widely appreciated. He composed over 100 symphonies, 67 string quartets, numerous operas and piano sonatas, and dozens of other works. He is still highly respected for his ability to craft intricate melodies and create elegant, innovative orchestral textures.
